The large fishing fleets that operate off the African continent form a specific niche bunker market
Cape Town is an important fishing port with fishing vessels accounting for about 60% of the local gas oil market. Off West Africa a number of companies specialise in sea refuelling of the fishing fleets, while Walvis Bay in Namibia has long been an important base port for fishing vessels.
Cameron’s Jiskoot Quality Systems says it has recently supplied and installed a bunker fuel oil blender at a fishing vessel port in Namibia. This in-line system was designed to blend heavy fuel oil with gas oil to produce 10m3/hr of 70cSt fuel oil that can be pumped directly to the waiting fishing vessels at the jetty. As well as blending, the system will provide a representative MARPOL compliant sample as the blend progresses.
Jiskoot says the skid mounted system will be supplied with an integrated control system and performance guarantee giving +/- 1% viscosity of the target recipe, therefore delivering significant savings and competitive advantage by reducing the blended product costs by $6 –10 per tonne.
